The Old Problem of Evil

My wife is the kind of woman who has little interest in her career. She has a nurturing personality and loves to cook, bake, sew and knit. In short, she was born to be a mom. Except. She probably won't ever be. After years of trying we have exhausted the available medical technology that we can afford/are willing to do. It seems unlikely that we will ever be biological parents.

We have earnestly prayed for children for years. One can't help but entertain doubts in this pain. Is there a personal God, listening to the prayers of 6.5 billion people alone in an unfathomably large and cold universe?

Some seek comfort by demonstrating how comparatively good we have it. I know people that would love to have a wonderful wife as I do. Elsewhere in the world children are desperately poor or worse yet slaves. It is cold comfort though to realize that there are girls stolen from their families living in brothels.

No. Rather comfort comes from the realization that our hope is for eternity, not for this fallen world. Let’s maybe kick things off in dealing with the age-old problem of evil?
